National Pro-Bono Week

This week (6-11 November) is National Pro Bono Week, an annual week to recognise the contribution lawyers make, free-of-charge, to many people and organisations in need of legal advice who otherwise would not be able to afford it.  The event is run by the National Pro Bono Centre and details can be found here.

Most lawyers are aware of their privileged position in society – the privilege of being able to provide legal advice and representation. Many lawyers are also aware that this privilege comes with important responsibilities to help keep legal advice open and accessible, especially to the most vulnerable people in our communities.

For many lawyers providing advice free of charge (also called pro bono work) is especially important since lawyers have the capacity to assist people in a meaningful and life-changing way.  DLS offers the opportunity to work directly with people who find it particularly difficult to access their rights and justice.  This is of great interest to many lawyers – it is a great cause and by working with us lawyers will experience the joy of making a real difference to people’s lives.

This week of all weeks is the perfect time to offer up your legal skills to the service of DLS!  What’s more, you could do so after training with us in employment and discrimination law – we offer very competitive rates.  Perhaps you could persuade your company or firm to pay for the training that you need to start volunteering for us and making a difference.  Full details are on the National Pro Bono Week website.  Alternatively please contact david@dls.org.uk.

We hope to hear from you!
