Coronavirus is not just a world health emergency. It is impacting all of our lives and for many people who are disabled, the current pandemic is particularly tough. Find out what we at the Disability Law Service are doing to support you and keep you safe during the coronavirus outbreak.

Changes at the DLS

In line with government advice, we are making some changes to the way we operate.

Our services

We continue to offer all our services online and by phone. Our office remains closed and we are are not offering face to face meetings.

We aim to respond to enquiries within 3-5 working days. Please understand that we may take longer than usual to respond to you.

Publications

We are continuing to take action to show how the current crisis is impacting disabled people.

The Coronavirus Act 2020 further curtails the rights of disabled people and carers to social care support. Our position statement on the Coronavirus Act details how the law has serious implications for the rights of people with disabilities.

We have produced a factsheet on how to deal with threatened cuts to care under the Coronavirus Act. A more detailed factsheet for helpline workers at other organisations is also available.

Due to the international outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK, emergency protective changes have been made by the UK government to the welfare benefits system. We have produced a helpsheet to help navigate these changes to welfare benefits.
